PRIDE SPOTLIGHT: MARTI GOULD CUMMINGS
It’s PRIIIDE and we're celebrating our ❤️ for the LGBTQ community by interviewing some of the fiercest members of our ((305)) fam.
Marti Gould Cummings is one of our fave drag performers and you can catch him servin’ up some fierce jazzercise realness at our 3-0-KAIKAI this week. When he’s not boppin’ around our studios, you’ll find this sickening AF kween high-kicking and lip-syncing his way around NYC.
Catch Marti sissying that walk this Friday (6/16) at our studio in The Village -- he’ll be emceeing this week’s 3-0-KAIKAI alongside our main squeeze Deaton. Sign up to join the party here and keep reading for the dirrrt on this firecracker.
Marti! We wanna know more about 3-0-KAIKAI!
3-0-KAIKAI is where it is at! Fridays during Pride month I am boppin’ around the studio and working out to PRIDE music!
OK spill -- what makes for a good kai kai?
Sex sells! Sooooo ham it up and show us what ya got! Shake every part of you!
We gotta know -- have you ever taken a ((305)) class?
Lord I took my first last week and trust me I will be back again and again!
They don’t call us junkies for nothing! Has performing always been a part of your life?
I was doing jump splits in the womb!
Duh, of course you were! Tell us more about your ah-maze style.
It's literally whatever I feel like for that day but I am super into 90s fashion -- everything from Forever21 discount ho to custom crafted gowns! I love NYX and Ben Nye products. I feel like a sexy ass bitch wearing their products!
What do you love about drag?
I do drag because it is liberating, it is political, it is artistic, it is resistance, it is musical, it is gorgeous, it is freedom! Drag is appealing because there are no rules!
What does Pride mean to you?
Pride means being myself fully and encouraging others to be themselves because we are all gorgeous unicorns! 🦄
How does ((305)) celebrate that definition of Pride?
((305)) celebrates Pride because they welcome ALL people to just let loose and have a good time and gives them an opportunity to connect to their physical, spiritual, and emotional selves.
There are lots of stereotypes about drag queens. What's the one that bugs you most?
That we want to be women. Some of us do but most of us just want to express ourselves through art and this is the outlet we use.
What's your advice to someone who might be confused, struggling with, questioning, or exploring their sexuality?
Take it slow! All feelings are ok! Just be honest with where you are at in your self discovery. There are no wrong answers.
What's your coming out story?
I came out when I was 14 to everyone but my parents. Then when I was 17, I went on a date and told my brother and he told my parents!
Alright, now for the juicy stuff! Single or taken?
I just got married 12 days ago!
OMG con*drag*ulations, boo! How’d you two meet? What's date night like?
We met on Grindr. A perfect date for us is getting fro yo and watching scary movies with junk food!
#RelationshipGoals much? What is the best part about being a drag queen?
Being able to brighten peoples days and give them an escape to this crazy world!
What do you do when you're not performing?
I am ALWAYS PERFORMING - but when I am really not I am working on political activism and trying to engage people to educate themselves on who they are voting for and what issues matter to them.
You are a HUGE 90s fan -- what are your faves?
First Wives Club, Friends, all things Alanis, Britney, Spice Girls, and BOP IT!
🌈 ((305)) PRIDE, BABY! 🌈
Marti is breaking it down at our bangin' 3-0-KAI KAI on 6/16 -- DON'T MISS IT. Catch it here.
Not in NYC, or busy this week? We know you still love to dance. We know you love to sweat. We know you love to be sexy. And we KNOW you love to throw shade and spill the well-brewed tea.
June is PRIDE month at ((305)). We're celebrating LGBTQ brothers, sisters, and folks in between everywhere.
In NYC: 3-0-KAIKAI (gay nite) Fridays at 5:30PM @ the Village Studio. Emceed by a live drag queen, this class features a 10-minute vogue tutorial, "party favors" you won't wanna miss, and a free drink ticket to Pieces in the West Village.
