Instructor Spotlight: Symone Gates
What's the best cure for a hot, sticky, NYC summer day? A class with Symone Gates, duh. Symone is literally a breath of fresh air. She's equal parts hustle and grace, and she's gonna make you sweat. We caught up with Symone to unravel the mystery behind this booty-shaking goddess.
What drew you to ((305))?
After I took a class with Latoya and I was sold. It was such a thrilling and crazy experience to see her command a room and bring everyone joy just from her presence. That's when I knew. I made it my goal to help people find their joy, confidence, and strength from fitness.
Do you have a dance-y past? Any technical training?
Yep! I'm classically trained, starting with the stereotypical ballet class at age three all the way through a performing arts high school. I've done it all: tap, jazz, hip-hop, modern, and lyrical.
Where can we find you when you're not at ((305))?
I recently launched a website for my new post-workout body care line called Bädé. I'm super excited to see where it goes and how big I can grow it. I'm on my GLOW up! I also practice hot yoga, go to cycling classes, teach kickboxing, and consult. If you want to succeed in this city, you have to embrace NYC's hustle mentality!
Word on the street is that you grew up all over the world. What's that like?
I've lived all over the place: Germany, Japan, Arizona, New Mexico, and now Las Vegas. I think the greatest gift my parents gave me was a cultural understanding and an overall interest in different cultures. My wandering childhood created a lifelong love of travel that I hope will never go away!
What's the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
I think about how I can be better and do better in all aspects of my life. And lately, I always have Bädé on the brain. I'm happily obessed with finding ways to grow my new little side business into a successful wellness brand.
If you could have any celeb attend your class, who would it be and why?
I'd want a celeb who would seriously dance their their butt off. How about Kevin Hart? I feel like he'd be entertaining in class!
Last question, let's get juicy. Who are you crushing on these days?
Honestly, I haven't seriously crushed in a looooong time. Like where are the cute dudes of NYC? I'm ready to start crushing again!
