Instructor Spotlight: Dionne Eleby
Class with Dionne is unpredictable. It's high-energy. It's gonna leave you feeling sore for dayz.
This long-time ((305)) instructor made the move from NYC to DC a year ago—and we couldn't be happier down here in the District.
DC loves you! What made you move from NYC to DC?
And I love DC! Even though I’m still learning my way around the city. The move from NYC to DC was a no-brainer. After two years of trying to pursue a performing career in NYC and feeling stagnant, an opportunity to travel and perform with Step Afrika (a dance company based in Washington, DC) presented itself. It was an offer that I couldn't refuse. My body, mind, and spirit welcomed the much needed change of scenery, and I have been hitting the reset button ever since.
That's incredible. What are you doing when you're not at ((305))?
You can find me teaching at Cyclebar NoMa or catching up with friends and enjoying summer in the city.
We heard that you used to work on cruise ships. What's cruise life like?
I loved cruise ship life! I worked for Nickelodeon/Norwegian Cruise Line from 2012-2014. I met so many people, from so many different countries around the world. Each contract was about 6 months, so co-workers became my family. I traveled mainly to the Caribbean. I spent a lot of time reading, working out, exploring the different islands, looking for wi-fi.
Damn. That's the life. So what's your favorite toning move to complement all the cardio at ((305))?
If you’ve ever taken my class, you know that I love arms, so push-ups are a must! It is a full-body move that targets all the major muscle groups. It improves posture, engages your core, and defines your biceps and triceps.
What do you do to recover from your active lifestyle?
I love to treat my body to a nice, hot bath with some type of healing essential oil and a large glass of red wine. I put on my favorite R&B playlist and just relax. I usually follow that by catching up on my favorite TV shows such as Queen Sugar and Insecure.
Mmm that sounds nice. Give us the scoop: what's your go-to first date move if things are going well?
I’m single so for me to even get a date is a miracle within itself! Seriously, though. I wouldn’t know the first thing to do. I suppose if things are going well, I’d invite them to a ((305)) class!
What do you hope to accomplish before 2017 wraps up?
2017 has been a year of transition for me. To be able stand in my own truth would be a huge accomplishment.
