How to talk about the Super Bowl like you're into sports
It's that time of year again. You get invited to a Super Bowl party and everyone's huddled around a TV, hootin' and hollerin' and you don't even know which team is what color. We've been there. But this year, we're here to break it down for you. What are friends for, right?
Let's start with the basics.
Who: This year's contenders are the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons.
What: Super Bowl LI (that's Super Bowl 51 if your Roman numerals are shakey)
When: Sunday, February 5 @ 6:30 PM ET (That's tonight, ya'll!)
Where: Houston, TX.
Why: Because sports. And because this year's game is supposed to have over 100 million viewers, which means the commercials will be really good. And they better be good, because a 30 second spot costs about $5 million this year. And that's a lot of $$$.
Haltftime show: Lady Gaga. You could say we're *kinda* pumped for the performance.
The drama: The Falcons are n00bz and the Patriots have been around this Super Bowl block before (9x's to be exact). The Falcons are really good at offense. The Patriots are really good at defense. And offense. Basically they're really good at everything. (FYI: Offense is Football for scoring and Defense is Football for not letting the other team score.)
But wait, there's more drama! Iconic Patriots' Quarterback Tom Brady is going up against the Falcons' Quarterback Matt Ryan. Brady is something of a living legend and Ryan has been SLAYING the field this year and is the NFL's MVP and Offensive POY (that means for Player of the Year). If Brady wins this year he will be the G.O.A.T., literally. If Ryan wins, he will be able to add his first Super Bowl ring to his jewelry box.
Hut, hut, SIKE! That's not all the drama either. Patriots' Coach Bill Belichick has coached the team through 4 victories (that's some pretty sweet bling) and is considered WORLD'S BEST COACH because *DJ Khaled voice* all he does is win, win, win, no matter what.
Coach Dan Quinn from ATL has really upped the Falcons' record since he joined the team. But this ain't the first time these two are meeting on the field. TBT to Quinn coaching the Seattle Seahawks when they played the same Patriots in the Super Bowl two, short years ago. Spoiler alert: The Patriots won that round. You could say it's time for a rematch.
Still not planning to tune into the wonderful world of football? We get it.
The good news is the 2017 Puppy Bowl is on at 3pm ET on Animal Planet. You can meet the puppers- er- players here.
