ERIKA: THE COMPASS
All my perfectionists, put your hands up. Our new D.C. instructor Erika feels you. Like, she really feels you. It’s not always easy having a big imagination and a semi-neurotic attachment to to-do lists and spreadsheets. But Erika gets you. And — wait for it — that’s why she loves teaching ((305)).
Her class is a space to forget, get lost in the music, and channel your inner child. You'll love how much she loves and accepts herself and others because of their quirks, not despite them. Erika is constantly curious. She’s got a heart of gold. If you’re new to ((305)) and nervous to jump in, Erika’s class will 100% make you feel heard and seen.
We caught up with Erika over maple lattes and got allll the deets on becoming a bada$$ instructor and why she lives that ((305)) life.
Welcome to the ((305)) fam, boo! What was hardest part of instructor training?
Removing myself from my comfort zone. Dance fitness is new to me, and I have to try to remember that this is TRAINING. Everything won't be perfect the first time around, and there's still so much to learn.
So true! Are you crushin’ on any of your fellow instructors?
Dionne and HD! I love how committed they are to their craft, but most importantly their willingness to give back and teach others their awesome ways.
If this celeb took your class, you'd totally DIE . . .
Jennifer Lopez, Ciara, and Kelis
Do you have a go-to post-class snack?
I LOVE Chocolate Chip, Peanut Crunch Cliff bars!
Now for the juicy stuff -- tell us about your boo!
I'm happily taken and in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend who lives in Belgium. At first, I was concerned about the distance, but we've been an exceptional level of trust. Also, because of him, I've been to some pretty cool cities like London, Paris and Brussels.
Serious #couplegoals! How did y’all meet?
We met in high school through a mutual friend. Over time, we developed a close friendship, but we didn't know that either of us like each other until graduation.
Alright girrrl, tell us a story that proves you're a #BOSS.
When I was younger, I was the only child and had to entertain myself most of the time. I explored DC on my own when I could sneak away. Now my friends ask me how I can travel solo or move to new cities without knowing anyone, and I have my childhood experiences to thank for that. I've become super independent, aware and unafraid of adventure.
We gotta know -- what’s your fave #TBT 90s jam?
“Are You That Somebody?” by Aaliyah
OK, last one! Why do you love ((305))?
((305)) is representative of how far a dream can go. I love the history behind the business and admire how far Sadie and her team have taken the ((305)) brand in just 5 short years. It's a reminder to follow your passion wholeheartedly and commit.
Can’t get enough Erika?
